RNZFB Homai Special Formats Library
Homai Special Formats Library is part of Library Services of the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind (RNZFB). It is located on the Homai Campus. The library provides books in a variety of special formats for readers, from preschool level to young adult. These formats include braille, audio and large print. The library provides a service to the school and to all children in New Zealand who are blind or low vision.
Who can use the library?
If you are a member of the RNZFB, or are enrolled at Homai National School or a Vision or Sensory Resource Centre you can borrow books from the library. If you are not sure if this includes you, please contact one of the librarians and ask; we are always happy to help.
The Library's Collection includes:
- Collage books. Sturdy hard covered picture books with large print and braille text and bright, bold collage illustrations.
- Braille books. Fiction, non-fiction and text-books for all ages. Many are illustrated with thermoform pictures.
- Twin vision picture books with clear plastic braille over the original print or with clear plastic braille pages inserted between the original print pages.
- Talking books recorded on audio cassettes. Fiction, non-fiction and textbooks for all ages.
- Large print books in 18 point font. Mostly fiction for ages 9 to 16.
