Kickstart
The Kickstart Experience provides an opportunity for young adults who are blind or low vision to live in a supported flatting situation as they make the transition to tertiary, the workplace or independent living. The programme takes a holistic view focusing on living and working as a member of a team. The Senior Teacher, Teacher and two Adaptive Daily Living Instructors work closely with the students to support the development of individual goals and achievement. Applications are invited from students aged between 17 and 21 years who require support to access the Kickstart curriculum due to their vision impairment. Registration with the RNZFB is highly recommended. Applicants need to be reliable, responsible and able to live without supervision. This includes being able to take responsibility for all medication and all personal care.
The programme aims to develop skills in the Expanded Core Curriculum areas of:
- Independent living skills
- Careers options and pathways
- Social / personal skills
