Assessment & Teaching Services

 
The majority of BLENNZ teaching and support services are provided through Resource Teachers Vision (RTVs) based in 12 Visual Resource Centres throughout the country. Resource Teachers Vision work in partnership with parents and provide education services to over 1400 children and young people in their homes, early childhood centres and schools.

Services provided include:

  • Functional vision assessment
  • Early intervention services
  • Teaching programmes in the Expanded Core Curriculum e.g. braille
  • Facilitation and consultation within schools
  • Professional development for teachers & support staff
  • Support for parents
  • The provision of resources and technology

Referrals to Visual Resource Centres can come from a number of sources including:

  • Parents
  • Teachers
  • Ophthalmologists
  • Health professionals
  • RNZFB and GSE

All referrals must have parent/caregiver consent and should preferably be accompanied by ophthalmic information. Referral forms are available from each Visual Resource Centre.
